I read her first book, Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? (And Other Concerns), in 2014. While it was an enjoyable read, I remember being sort of... underwhelmed. Yes, it was funny, but it was so lighthearted that I didn't feel like I learned much about Mindy on a personal level.
Why Not Me? is similar to her first book in that it is a collection of short essays about different experiences from her life. However, this time around she not only writes with more substance, but she also ends the book with some pretty inspirational advice about self-confidence. She covers topics such as her struggle with body image, her "weird as hell" relationship with BJ Novak, and her struggle with confidence when she first started out as a writer for The Office.
There were more than a handful of moments when I actually laughed out loud while reading this book; so much so that my dad actually came into the living room at one point to ask me why I was laughing so much.
I gave this book a 5/5 rating on Goodreads, and I would definitely recommend it to anyone who's looking for a humorous read. Also, if you have never watched her Hulu original show The Mindy Project, I definitely recommend you check it out! It is one of my all-time favorites, and every friend I've recommended it to is now obsessed.
Next up... Yes Please by Amy Poehler.
